Tweeted, Poked, Liked and Connected – Guest Post

September 21, 2011

I’m running a series of guest blog posts in relation to web and social media. If you would like to participate, please contact me on anna@amoshdesigns.ie.

This week, Louise Durning of Marketing Mums (www.marketingmums.ie), a virtual marketing department of Marketing Managers for small businesses, has the following to say about Tweeted, Poked, Liked and Connected!

The impact of social media marketing on business today can’t be underestimated.  The phenomenal speed, and the viral nature have allowed businesses to ‘spread the word’ in ways only big brands with big budgets achieved before.

As powerful as social media is, it still requires resources behind it to support the brand.  The fundamentals of marketing still stand, for example if the appearance of your product or service is not customer centric, chasing ‘likes’ on Facebook  or Tweeting all day is not going to change this.  A great brand design is still essential, after all social media is about creating awareness of your brand and driving customers to purchase.

Having a brand identity and corporate design that works across all mediums is one of the ways that the social media mix interacts with your traditional requirements today.  A good design helps define your brand personality for both online and offline environments, making it easy for customers to recognize and remember.

Essentially no matter what channel you use to market your products the foundations of your business are still essential in order to build your platforms of communication upon.
